Whether building a new bathroom or remodeling an existing one, the addition of a new shower can add a lot to the beauty and the comfort of the space and also increase your property value considerably. Depending on the preferences of the homeowner, there are several different designs that may be worth considering.
Here are a couple of suggestions to consider:
For people who tend to consider washing time to be private time, an enclosed unit that you can simply walk into is the ideal design. Showers of this type offer the advantage of plenty of room while also providing privacy. The chamber can be constructed using ceramic tile placed on solid walls. In order to provide the space with natural light, consider adding a row of short windows with opaque glass along the ceiling line of the chamber. In like manner, a full shower door with opaque glass will allow the chamber to not feel oppressive while still providing as much privacy as anyone could want.

With this design, two shower heads are positioned at opposite ends of the shower space. Once again, ceramic tile can be used for the area, but there is no real need for a door, since the space is large enough for two people to move freely. A skylight can be a nice touch for the area, letting in plenty of light while still maintaining some privacy. There are many designs of skylights to choose from which can enhance the shower room in many ways. As an alternative, it could be outfitted with a series of windows that are placed high enough to allow everyone to look out over a back yard while enjoying a hot shower. Remember to keep the windows at a height where anyone who might happen to look in the direction of the windows from the outside will not be embarrassed. One of my favorite features is to build a wall out of glass bricks. This can be an outside wall, which will let light flood into the enclosure, although you will have to mindful of privacy. The other option is to build the wall inside as the partition. This has the effect of making the unit enclosure feel very open and bright. The only disadvantage to this is that they will need to be regularly cleaned especially if you live in an area with hard water.
Part of the fun of installing one of these units is coming up with a design that is not only in keeping with the general décor of the home, but also reflects the personality of the people who live there. Allow your personal tastes and preferences to dictate the shape and function of any designs you consider. In the end, you’ll be very happy with your choices and enjoy the space every time you use it. You will be using it for many years to come so it is important when considering a new enclosure to build something that you will enjoy and appreciate for some time.
